The university have a dedicated team that can support students with disabilities and specific learning differences so that they can ensure such students are supported to achieve their best whilst studying on their course and getting the most out of their university experience. 

The Disability Support Team support students who have or experience: 

  • Long term health conditions; such as diabetes, sickle cell anaemia, epilepsy, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome (this list is not exhaustive) 
  • Mobility difficulties  
  • Sensory impairments (such as visual or hearing impairments) 
  • Neuro-diverse learning needs; such as Autism/Asperger’s  
  • Other learning differences; such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia  
  • Mental health difficulties 

 

The team can help and support students by providing advice, information and support with: 

  • How to register or disclose your support needs to the university 
  • Telling you more about Disability Support Allowance (DSA) where you may be eligible for financial funding to support you 
  • Help you with accessing the campus and its facilities – including discussing adapted accommodation, toilet facilities, parking and quiet spaces around campus areas. 
  • Support with Learning and Teaching agreements (LTSAs) - like a support plan of reasonable adjustments the university can make to help remove or reduce barriers to your learning 
  • How you can share your needs with teaching staff and placement staff, should you wish to 
  • Exam access arrangements -  reasonable adjustments that can be discussedagreed and facilitated to help you perform to your best ability within examination conditions, considering your disability
