The University of Bedfordshire’s Fitness to Study policy is intended as a process and framework that may be undertaken and considered when a student’s ability to study and progress at the university appears to be negatively impacted by their own health, wellbeing or other circumstances. The process is not intended to be a disciplinary process but as a supportive intervention for a student identified in such circumstances, when all other options have been exhausted.
Example situations whereby a student may become subject to Fitness to Study is if:
- They pose a risk to their own health, safety or wellbeing (or to other people’s health, safety or wellbeing).
- Their behaviour may negatively impact (or be at risk of negatively impacting) the learning, teaching or experience of other students or the daily activities of the university.
- The individual’s support needs extend further outside of the scope of the professional support (and other services) the university can reasonably provide.
- The individual appears to be unable to engage with academic study.
