What is the SCONUL Access Scheme?

The SCONUL Access Scheme is a scheme that allows university staff and students to access and borrow resources from other libraries that participate in the scheme.

The University of Bedfordshire participates in this scheme, which means you are able to join it and access other university libraries.

What do I get access to as part of this scheme?

If you are a University of Bedfordshire:

  • full-time postgraduate student
  • postgraduate research student registered for a PhD, MPhil or similar qualification
  • part-time, distance learning, and placement student
  • member of staff (academic or support staff) on an open or fixed term contract

then you may be able to borrow books/journals/articles/etc. from other college or university libraries that participate in the scheme.

If you are a University of Bedfordshire full-time undergraduate student, then you may be able to use the resources of other college or university libraries for reference, but you may not be able to borrow books/journals/articles/etc. and take them out of other libraries.

How do I join the scheme?

You can join the scheme here. You will be taken to a page with further instructions on how to apply for access at certain university/college libraries which you are able to use.

Make sure you have your University of Bedfordshire Library ID number (on your Student ID card) to hand so that you can complete the access application.
